Developer Anbau Enterprises has cleared a hurdle in its bid to build a condo tower next door to the landmarked Lucerne Hotel after scaling down its original proposal.
The Landmarks Preservation Commission rejected an earlier design for the Upper West Side development that would have risen 16 stories and included a penthouse and glass-fronted balconies on one side of the facade.
On Tuesday, the commission approved a new design that is 30 feet shorter, rises only 13 stories, has no penthouse and omits the balconies, which proved particularly contentious, Curbed reported.
If the project moves forward, Anbau’s condo building will have an address at 207 West 79th Street and will replace a five-story building that currently occupies the lot. [Curbed] – Tom DiChristopher
