Chris Whittle, founder of Avenues: The World School and former publisher of Esquire magazine, will list his 11.2-acre East Hampton property for $140 million. The listing could be the Hamptons’ priciest ever.

Brown Harris Stevens president Peter Turino has the listing, the Wall Street Journal reported. The estate includes a 10,000-square-foot, six-bedroom Georgian-Revival shingle-style house and more than 1,100 feet of water frontage.

Whittle and his wife bought the property in 1989. They renovated it with architect Peter Marino to create a three-story great room in the house and a four-bedroom guesthouse.

Whittle told the newspaper that he and his wife are embarking upon a new chapter of their lives as empty nesters. With their base in New York City, the couple will maintain a presence in the Hamptons and hope to spend more time in China, Europe and Palm Beach, Fla. [WSJ]TRD
