Jonathan Sheffer, or at least his brokers, may have interviewed a bloodsucker or two in the course of marketing Sheffer’s Greenwich Village townhouse, but it’s doubtful any were the kind you can ward off with garlic.

Sheffer, a conductor, orchestra leader and film score composer, sold his Village townhouse at 39 West 10th Street, earning $18.1 million.

The landmarked Greek Revival house, built in the 1830s, is completely gutted, with plans filed for a penthouse expansion and a new basement. The additions, which will cost around $7 million to $10 million, would increase the square footage from 5,200 square feet to a total of 7,500 square feet, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Compass’s Steven Dawson and Joshua Wesoky represented Sheffer in the deal. Robert Dankner, president of Prime Manhattan Residential, represented the buyers, a couple from the Upper East Side.

Dankner told the Journal that comparable finished homes in the neighborhood can sell “in the $30-million rage.” Sheffer, who bought the townhouse in 1993, listed it for $19 million back in April. [WSJ]Ariel Stulberg
