No one makes hits at the Hit Factory anymore, but a $6.2 million penthouse sale might be worth a gold record or two.A duplex penthouse at the defunct recording studio in Hell’s Kitchen, where Lady Gaga, Tracy Morgan, Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire all once laid their heads, just sold for $6.2 million.
The four-bedroom Penthouse C unit, featuring “celebrity friendly” parking and a 1,076-square-foot private terrace, was listed by Prince Dockery and Jason Perkal of Douglas Elliman, the New York Post reported.
The Hit Factory studio opened in the seven-story building at 421 West 54th Street in the mid-1970s. It hosted sessions with countless classic artists: the Rolling Stones, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen and Madonna, just to name a few.
The recording operation closed down in 2005. Two years later, a joint venture between Arizona-based Sagamore Capital and Connecticut-based Core Plus Properties converted it to luxury condos. It finally sold out in 2011.
The penthouse’s buyer already owns a a penthouse in the building, and plans to combine the two units into an “extraordinary residence,” Dockery told the Post. [NYP]
