Now we know why Sean Ludwick was stacking cash during his court appearance earlier this month.
Ludwick, charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident that killed Paul Hansen, a Douglas Elliman broker, has replaced his lawyer, hiring Benjamin Brafman, famous for defending Michael Jackson, Sean “Diddy” Combs and real estate mogul Charles Kushner.
Ludwick’s former attorney, Daniel Ollen, appeared with the Blackhouse Development co-founder at the Southampton Town Justice Court on September 4, at which time Ludwick was seen folding stacks of money.
Ludwick’s scheduled court appearance earlier this week was postponed. He’s currently free on a $1 million bond, the East Hampton Star reported.
Hansen died in the early hours of Aug. 30 when Ludwick allegedly lost control of his Porsche and crashed into a utility pole. According to the New York Post, Hansen was partially ejected from the vehicle and Ludwick dragged him and tossed his wallet before fleeing. Police say Ludwick was drunk at the time of the accident.
Brafman, of Brafman & Associates, also defended Dominique Strauss-Kahn when the former International Monetary Fund head was accused in 2011 of sexually assaulting a hotel worker, and New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress when he was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment after accidentally shooting himself in a nightclub.
