Manhattanites have to travel further than ever to find a rental deal.
Median rents in Brooklyn and Queens are steadily closing in on those in Manhattan, especially in neighborhoods just across the East River, according to data from StreetEasy.
Dumbo is the the fourth most expensive neighborhood in the city, with a median rent of $4,079 a month, higher than that in Soho, Chelsea and the West Village.
Three other Brooklyn neighborhoods – Williamsburg, at $3,229, Cobble Hill, at $3,210 and Downtown Brooklyn, also at $3,210 – have monthly median rents above that of Manhattan’s overall median, $3,092.
Even Long Island City, with a median rent of $2,756 a month, wasn’t far behind.
Brooklyn and Queens taken as a whole, with median rents of $2,487 a month and $2,057 a month respectively, still trailed however. [StreetEasy] – Ariel Stulberg
