St. Barnabas Hospital, working with L+M Development Partners and Hornig Capital Partners, filed permits to build a massive new residential complex in the Belmont section of the Bronx.
The hospital plans a 243,455-square-foot, two-building complex that would include 181 apartments at an empty plot at 4507 Third Avenue, between 182nd and 183rd streets.
The building to the east will stand 11 stories and 120 feet while the western building is slated to rise seven stories, according to the permit application.
On the development’s ground floor, there would be an ambulatory care center and space for retail. The complex will also have a community facility, recreation rooms, a terrace and roof deck, New York YIMBY reported.
Upon completion, there would be 173,054 square feet of residential space, 53,391 square feet of community facilities, and 17,000 square feet of retail.
Dattner Architects have been tapped to design the project.
Last year L+M Development and Hornig Capital Partners filed plans to build a 12-story, 127,000-square-foot affordable housing rental building at 4439 Third Avenue between East 181st and East 182nd streets, a long-vacant lot next to the hospital, as The Real Deal reported. The building will include 11,500 square feet of commercial space.
A spokesperson told TRD at the time that the 133-unit building would be designated entirely affordable. No word yet if the hospital’s complex will have affordable housing. [YIMBY] — Dusica Sue Malesevic
