Construction is nearly finished on New York’s zaniest new building. Columbia University Medical College’s new Graduate and Education Building in Washington Heights has been the subject of much discussion since renderings by architecture firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro surfaced four years ago.
The building has already provoked a somewhat scornful review from The Real Deal‘s architecture critic, who wrote: “The spirit and vibrancy of the drawing have vanished. The wrenching irregularities, which were so compelling in the rendering, now look tame and forced. The dreary, step-by-step accumulation of beams and infill and curtain walls carries over none of the disruptive liveliness that justified and made tolerable the formal liberties that the design took.”
But don’t take his word for it — check out the building for yourself in the video above.
