VIDEO: The seedy history of tenants at Trump’s 40 Wall Street

Report reveals that the Donald's most valuable real estate asset houses some shady firms

During a rally earlier this year, Donald Trump responded to critics of his failed businesses with a laundry list of his successful properties.

Those detractors “don’t want to talk about 40 Wall Street,” the presumptive Republican presidential nominee told supporters at the time. In the past, Trump has referred to the 72-story Financial District office tower as home to “many of the top-notch businesses in the world.”

A recent investigation by Bloomberg, however, shined a light on the less savory firms that have leased space in the tower since Trump took control of the building in 1995. The news outlet described it as housing “frauds, thieves, boiler rooms and penny-stock schemers,” who have taken advantage of the relatively cheap rent. Since Trump acquired the property, prosecutors have filed criminal charges against at least 29 people connected to 12 alleged scams tied to the building, according to the report.
