Paul Simon’s Montauk cottage is dangling over troubled waters
The man who once sang “I Am a Rock” is likely just wishing his house was built on one right now. A cottage in the 75-year-old musician’s cliff-side Montauk estate is edging toward the ocean as the bluff on which it sits slowly erodes. The home is now just 10 feet away from the cliff, the New York Post reported. The East Hampton Planning Department is now reviewing the application to move the home back. “It was teetering on the edge,” said planning official Lisa D’Andrea. But fear not, Simon fans. The musician himself does not live in the cottage — one of his relatives does. [NYP]

Montauk could soon have its own public bus system
Here’s your chance to cut down on that summer Uber bill. East Hampton town officials are hoping to roll out a fleet of buses this summer to loop around Montauk. This week the Town Board began discussion of the route, number of buses, and hours of operation. Stops would include the Long Island Rail Road station and the downtown Montauk area. Town officials are even considering an app, Town Supervisor Larry Cantwell told 27East. The operation would be partially subsidized by the town, and hopefully the state as well, Cantwell said, in addition to charging riders a “modest” fare. [27East]
Another house is teetering into the ocean — and it’s up for grabs in foreclosure
The beachfront property at 153 Mulford Lane in Amagansett was scheduled to go to the auction block this week in a foreclosure sale, but the just like its mortgage, the home itself could soon be underwater. Like Paul Simon’s bluffside estate, the two-bedroom, two-bath property is endangered by erosion. Its new homeowner won’t be able to move the house back from the water, however, because a neighbor’s driveway in directly behind it. [EHS]
