Fashion mogul Tommy Hilfiger is throwing in the designer towel on trying to Sell His Plaza Hotel penthouse.
Hilfiger has been working to sell the duplex on the 18th and 19th floors of the building for nearly 10 years, Mansion Global reported. In 2008, he paid $25.5 million for the four-bedroom, five-bathroom pad and tried to flip it a few months later for $50 million. There were no bites.
It was then listed and relisted several times, but to no avail. The asking price was hiked up to $80 million in 2013, and was then reduced by $5 million two years later.
By early 2016, it was down to $68.9 million.
“They have never been in a rush to sell but they said, ‘It’s a new year. Let’s sell it this year,” then-listing broker Marie-Claire Gladstone of the Corcoran Group told The Real Deal at the start of 2016. “They have a very active life and travel a lot so there’s no point in really keeping it.”
It was most recently listed in November for $58.9 million, according to Mansion Global. The home, specifically designed to Hilfiger’s tastes, spans 6,000 square feet and features 35-foot ceilings and a private park-facing terrace. [Mansion Global] — Miriam Hall
