The home — called Tick Hall — was originally built in the 1880s by the McKim, Mead & White architecture firm (it is now part of the Montauk Association Historic District). Cavett and his then-wife Carrie Nye bought it in 1968, and in 1997, it burned down in a fire. Cavett and Nye determined to rebuild it exactly as it was before — despite having no architectural plans to work off of — and their process was captured in the documentary “From the Ashes: The Life and Times of Tick Hall.”
