Not groovy: Why the Haute Hippie founders are feuding with a developer
Jesse Cole and Patricia Wescoat-Pound are embroiled in legal dispute with the Jackson Group
After fighting to stop a developer from building a megamansion next door to their Greenwich Village townhouse, the founders of clothing line Haute Hippie have decided to sell-up instead.
Jesse Cole and Patricia Wescoat-Pound have listed their home at 208 West 11th Street for sale for $11.3 million, the New York Post reported. Cole paid $6.2 million in 2013 and then renovated it, according to the newspaper. It was previously on the market for $12.3 million in 2015.
The Jackson Group, run by Ike and Elliot Chehebar, wants to build a five-story townhouse next door, and claims the couple has preventing it from moving ahead with plans. The developer alleges the fashionistas reneged on a deal to allow him access to the property during the construction period, as well as a deal to buy air rights for $200,000. However, the couple said their engineer maintained the right to veto plans, and argued the new building blocked sunlight to their plants.
The next hearing for the case is set for Sept. 14 in the Manhattan Supreme Court.
“I think they just want out,” a source told the Post.
Built in 1856, the home has four bedrooms, a chef’s kitchen, five fireplaces and a landscaped garden, according to the newspaper.
Last month, the Jackson Group sold a development site near the Barclays Center to Adam America Real Estate for $36 million. [NYP] — Miriam Hall
