Another Jehovah’s Witnesses property sells, this time for $18M

Hawkins Way Properties purchased the site at 119 Columbia Heights

UPDATED, 10:58 a.m. August 17: Jehovah’s Witnesses just keep on selling.

The religious organization has parted ways with another of its Brooklyn properties. This one, located at 119 Columbia Heights, went to Hawkins Way Properties for $18 million, according to documents filed with the city on Wednesday.

Hawkins also plans to purchase the Jehovah’s Witnesses building at 97 Columbia Heights in a deal that will close later this month, according to Leslie J. Garfield Real Estate’s [TRDataCustom] Ravi Kantha, who represented Hawkins along with Matt Lesser.

The move is the latest in a long line of Brooklyn sales for Jehovah’s Witnesses. Developer Jeffrey Gershon entered into contract to buy the group’s building at 74 Adams Street for $60 million in May, while Clipper Realty snatched up the organization’s building at 107 Columbia Heights in February for $87.5 million. In 2016, a partnership led by Kushner Companies purchased the Watchtower building at 25-30 Columbia Heights for $340 million, one of the largest deals to ever close in Brooklyn.

The lot at 119 Columbia Heights currently contains two buildings with five floors spanning just under 30,000 square feet, according to the city.

Jehovah’s Witnesses recently relocated its world headquarters to Warwick in upstate New York.

Hawkins Way Properties, which is based in Los Angeles, previously worked on restoring Hollywood’s Mark Twain Hotel. The company did not respond to a request for comment.
