Proof: one celebrated NYC bakery chooses the city for its second location

Several restaurants are taking a bite out of Detroit’s retail offerings with the latest being New York’s City Bakery.

The 27-year-old bakery will be opening up its only other U.S. location outside of the Big Apple in a historic building in Detroit, reports the Wall Street Journal, and it’s only one of several restaurants making similar moves into the city: Shake Shack as well as chef Andrew Carmellini have plans to move in this year as well.

For the owner of City Bakery, Maury Rubin, the reason behind the celebrated bakery’s expansion into Detroit is about opportunity and timing; with new projects opening and efforts to restore the local economy, he believes the market is about to see growth.
