You must take the A Train
To go to Sugar Hill way up in Harlem
But if you have this kind of money
You probably won’t
Michael Feinstein, archivist of the Great American Songbook, sold his Upper East Side townhouse for $15.2 million.
He and husband Terrence Flannery enlisted Douglas Elliman for the sale and originally asked $15.9 million, according to the New York Post. The 16-room home at 143 East 63rd Street, just off Lexington Avenue, was no longer Feinstein’s primary residence — he’s based in Carmel, Indiana and has homes in Los Angeles and Carpinteria, California. Previously, Feinstein attempted to sell the home for $18 million back in 2013.
Feinstein built his career as a cabaret pianist and is a frequent performer of standards traditionally referred to as the Great American Songbook. He founded the Great American Songbook Foundation in Carmel in 2008, where he has archived his private collection of memorabilia.
Feinstein is also involved in the cabaret bar in Midtown called Feinstein’s/54. [NYP] — Will Parker
