David Cheikin, who heads up the New York and Boston offices for Brookfield Property Partners, is leaving the firm.
Cheikin is a 16-year veteran of the company, and holds the title of executive vice president. A spokesperson for the firm told the Commercial Observer that Cheikin is “going to pursue other opportunities.” Another source told the publication that he will “take a vacation and look around after that.”
Brookfield exec Ben Brown will assume Cheikin’s responsibilities effective April 1.
Cheikin oversees a portfolio of about 25 million square feet in New York, including megaprojects such as Manhattan West and the redevelopment of the World Financial Center known as Brookfield Place. He came to the firm from Jones Lang Wootton, the predecessor to JLL.
Brookfield has been angling to buy mall REIT General Growth Properties, and submitted a new takeover offer last week. [CO] — Hiten Samtani
