The late banker and philanthropist David Rockefeller’s Upper East Side mansion sold for $20 million — a $12.5 million discount from the original asking price.
The buyer — 146 East 65 LLC — went into contract on the 40-foot wide property in February and obtained a $10 million mortgage from Wells Fargo to purchase the house, property records show.
Rockefeller’s estate put the house at 146 East 65th Street on the market last year following his death at 101.
The most recent asking price was $27 million, down from $32.5 million.
Measuring 9,777 square feet, the four-story house has eight bedrooms, eight fireplaces, a skylight on the fourth floor and a temperature-controlled wine vault. It also has a 3,000-square-foot landscaped garden — or “oasis of greenery,” according to the listing.
BHS’ Mary Rutherfurd, Paula Del Nunzio and Leslie Coleman had the listing.
Built in 1924, the double-wide house was purchased by the Peggy and David Rockefeller in 1948. Peggy lived there until her death in 1996. David Rockefeller, a grandson of John D. Rockefeller, was chairman and CEO of Chase Manhattan Corporation.
