Supermodel Emily Ratajkowski and her movie producer husband Sebastian Bear-McClard — who was behind the recently-released film “Uncut Gems” — skipped out on $160,000 of rent over two years before being paid to leave, according to the New York Post.

The couple’s justification for not paying their rent was that they were “fighting the good fight against a real estate conglomerate” that bought their building, 49 Bleecker, for $40 million and began rent gouging tenants, the Post reported, citing a tweet by Ratajkowski.

The couple also filed an application to register their unit under the state’s Loft Law, which prevents eviction while the registration is pending. The law is in place to preserve joint living and working space in formerly commercial buildings for artists.

The couple’s landlord Antoni Ghosh claims in his lawsuit against the couple is that he is a fellow tenant who leased an entire floor of the building for $23,000 per month from the building owner, Rogers Investments. Ghosh then subleased five of the six units, including one to Ratajkowski and Bear-McClard.

The couple paid him $4,200 in rent starting in 2013, and their rent was eventually increased to $4,900. Bear-McClard’s net worth is an estimated to be around $12 million, while Ratajkowski is independently estimated to have a net worth of about $6 million.

Throughout the couple’s tenancy, Ghosh alleged they blasted music and hosted raucous parties at all hours.

According to Ghosh’s lawsuit, Rogers Investments paid the couple to leave the building. But Ghosh is still seeking $250,000 in damages from the celebrity couple, who’ve since shelled out $2 million for a home in Los Angeles’ Echo Park neighborhood. [NYP] — Erin Hudson
