Suzy Welch has staked another claim in the Upper East Side.
An entity tied to Welch, the author and widow of former General Electric CEO Jack Welch, closed on a $24.2 million condo on Park Avenue, property records show.
It’s Welch’s third purchase in the neighborhood in the last seven years. Earlier this month, she listed her townhouse at 160 East 81st Street, just blocks away, for $26 million.
It’s not clear if Welch plans to live in the home. A chief of staff for Welch said, “your information is incorrect” in response to questions about the purchase, but did not elaborate.
Welch’s new purchase is the penthouse atop the 11-unit pre-war building, which was converted into condos following a 2006 renovation.
Spanning 7,200 square feet, the five-bedroom apartment sprawls across three stories, including a top-floor landscaped terrace and home theater.
A private elevator landing leads into a double-sized living room with 10-foot ceilings, herringbone floors and a limestone gas-burning fireplace. The first floor also features a formal dining room overlooking Park Avenue and a wood-paneled library.
The second floor holds two more terraces, one of which features an outdoor kitchen and dining area, a primary suite and a sauna.
The seller is billionaire hedge funder Joseph Edelman, who bought the apartment for $30.5 million in 2008. He initially listed it for over $33 million in 2021, but dropped the asking price several times since then. The condo had a last asking price of nearly $27 million.
Compass’ Maria Manuche had the listing.
For Welch, an author and professor at New York University’s Stern School of Business, the purchase is the latest in a series of property moves that have come since her husband’s death in 2020.
In 2022, Welch sold her Lenox Hill co-op at 834 Park Avenue for $21 million after buying it with her husband, Jack, for about $19 million in 2018.
That sale came roughly one year after she bought her now-listed townhouse for nearly $23 million in 2021. The double-wide home spans almost 7,700 square feet and comes with seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms.
In 2022, Welch also listed her Hudson Valley estate for $25 million.
