If you want pot in Westhampton Beach, you’re going to have take a trip out of town. Bummer.
Westhampton Beach Village Board members are close to prohibiting cannabis sales in the village, according to 27east.
Board members haven’t formally made their decision and have until the end of the year to do so. However, all four trustees signaled their support to prohibit sales at their latest meeting.
Mayor Maria Moore also appeared to support a prohibition on weed vending. In fact, she wants to explore restrictions on use as well.
“I’d like to talk at the next work session about a local law limiting the locations where it can be consumed in public,” she said.
New York’s Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act legalized recreational cannabis retail sales but allows municipalities to prohibit sales as they see fit. The law also allows consumption where tobacco use is legal.
The Westhampton Beach Village Board will continue discussions on the ordinance at a Sept. 2 meeting.
