Co-Founder, CEO, The Agency

Umansky has carved out a big spot for himself in Los Angeles real estate. He oversees Los Angeles County’s largest independent brokerage, with $3.6 billion in volume in TRD’s 2025 ranking.

He’s come a long way. At 26, Umansky was trying to make it in the apparel industry. He had started his line 90265, named after a Malibu zip code, following his start in the industry working alongside his father in textiles. Yet the reality TV star — who has appeared on “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” and “Buying Beverly Hills” — made a big turn when he decided to get into real estate. He worked alongside his brother-in-law Rick Hilton at Hilton & Hyland from 1997 to 2011. However, getting passed up for an equity stake as the brokerage’s top producer soured the relationship and led Umansky to strike off on his own.

He started The Agency in 2011 with Blair Chang and Billy Rose. The trio grew the firm into what is now the county’s third largest brokerage after Compass and Coldwell Banker Realty. He’s also been an outspoken critic of the National Association of Realtors’ Clear Cooperation Policy, using his Pocket Listing Service to sue the trade group.

He’s also asserted The Agency’s boutique status, despite the business now having grown to 150 offices across 14 countries. In 2023, he published his first book, “The Dealmaker.” The following year, he launched the coaching platform Mauricio Umansky Network and in 2025 rolled out an art advisory service called The Agency Art House.
