“White Christmas” in spring: Bing Crosby’s Bay Area mansion back on market a year after last sale

$3M renovation gives Hillsborough estate a fresh face

Bing Crosby and 1200 Jackling Drive

Bing Crosby’s longtime home in Hillsborough is back on the market less than a year after trading hands.

Mehrdad and Neda Elie, who purchased the home in June, have listed the singer’s former residence at 1200 Jackling Drive for just under $29 million, the Wall Street Journal reported. Crosby’s family sold the 11-bedroom property to the Elies for $25 million.

The current owners spent much of the past year renovating the home to the tune of roughly $3 million. When the couple made the purchase last year, the property spanned approximately 5 acres. The owners have since divided the property into four separate lots with the home now sitting on a smaller 2.4-acre parcel. One of the empty lots has already sold for $5 million and the other two will eventually hit the market as well, Mehrdad Elie told the Journal.

Crosby bought the home in the 1960s and lived there with his wife, actress Kathryn Grant. The Crosby family listed the 18,535-square-foot estate for sale last February for $40 million after Grant’s death in 2024. The home was originally built in the 1920s for the family of Charles Howard, owner of the legendary racehorse Seabiscuit.

Under their ownership, the Elies replaced carpeting with hardwood floors but kept other details from Crosby’s time in the home including hand-painted walls in the dining room and custom wood finishes. Many of the home’s 15 bathrooms underwent makeovers while still maintaining fixtures like sinks and faucets. The main kitchen got a facelift to look more like the butler’s kitchen on the property. The couple spent roughly $400,000 on landscaping outside and installed a new pool after the Crosbys filled in theirs.

While Crosby’s Hillsborough home was his main residence, the singer had other properties throughout the Golden State. His ranch in Rancho Mirage, linked to an infamous affair between Marilyn Monroe and President John F. Kennedy, sold in 2022 for nearly $4.2 million; the home went up for sale again in late 2024 for $13.5 million. Crosby also owned a ranch in Elko, Nevada that hit the market in 2019 and a home in Los Angeles’ Toluca Lake neighborhood.
