Fresh off a weeklong tryst with Austin, the San Antonio Spurs are moving ahead with their multi-million-dollar investments in the Alamo City.

The basketball team’s ownership entity, Spurs Sports and Entertainment, filed plans to finish out a restaurant and bar, the Spurs Club, part of its $510.8 million practice facility at 1 Spurs Way. Work is expected to cost $2.9 million and wrap up in September, according to the filing. The practice facility is expected to open by August, ahead of training camp.

The 10,800-square-foot restaurant is part of a 50-acre practice and entertainment facility the Spurs and Lincoln Property Company are building on the city’s far northwest side. The 510,000-square-foot development, which the firms are calling the Victory Capital Performance Center at The Rock, will include offices for medical research, plus retail and dining, parks and event space. The property sits at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Loop 1604 near the Shops at La Cantera. It appears that the new project will rename a stretch of La Cantera Parkway to Spurs Way, so that its address can be 1 Spurs Way instead of 15935 La Cantera Parkway, according to this filing and another application with the state.

Representatives for the team and Spurs Sports and Entertainment did not immediately respond to requests for comment. In addition to its NBA team, Spurs Sports and Entertainment also operates a G-League affiliate, the Austin Spurs, and San Antonio FC in the USL, a professional soccer league.

Down by the river: How Rainey Street became Austin’s fastest-growing neighborhood

The Spurs have been located in San Antonio since 1973, but have made headway into Austin in recent years as the two cities sprawl out toward one another. The team even played two games at the University of Texas at Austin’s Moody Center this year. The practice facility development was seen as a reassuring sign that, despite its entreaties to its northern neighbor, the team is committed to staying in San Antonio. Naysayers can eat their words at the new restaurant.
