The San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama may be on a rookie contract, but with a $12 million base salary, the French phenom still has plenty to spend on new digs.
So where will the 7-foot-4-inch basketball prodigy live?
Based on other neighborhoods where Spurs players and coaches have lived, Wembanyama could snag a home in Anaqua Springs, Terrell Hills or Southtown, the San Antonio Express-News reported.
While all options are on the table, he’ll most likely live in the north or northwest part of the city, since that’s where the team’s training facilities are.
Teammate Zach Collins paid $1.3 million for a 4,800-square-foot house last year in the Cresta Bella neighborhood. Lonnie Walker also bought a house in the Northwest Side neighborhood during his playing days with the team. Nearby, former Spurs guard Dejounte Murray had a 4,722-square-foot mansion, which he sold for around $1.8 million earlier this year.
Available listings could also provide a clue as to where Wembanyama might live. Fellow Frenchman and Spurs legend Tony Parker had listed his 53-acre estate in Anaqua Hills for $19.5 million before yanking it off the market in January. Could Parker offer a hometown discount for the budding superstar?
Other possibilities include a $5.5 million, 10,500-square-foot mansion in Monte Vista, a 5,400-square-foot house in the Stone Oak area that’s priced at $1.4 million, or a 4,700-square-foot house in Champions Ridge listed for a little under $1.2 million, the outlet reported.
Many brokerages in sports cities specialize in catering to professional athletes, often having a sports or entertainment division geared toward high-profile clients. Some even hire former athletes to attract sports stars as clients.
Already one of the most famous people in the city, Wembanyama will likely hire a real estate agent who’s tight-lipped and comfortable working with professional athletes. Katie Tottenham of Kuper Sotheby’s represented head coach Gregg Popovich when he bought a penthouse in Southtown several months back. She also represented Doug McDermott in his $1.9 million purchase of a home in Terrell Hills.
