Emma Stone sticks with Manhattan over Austin, sells Tarrytown estate for $23M

Emma Stone sells Austin estate for $23.5 million

Actor Emma Stone has sold her renovated 1940s, seven-bedroom mansion, opting to stick with the hustle and bustle of Manhattan without ever giving the manse in Austin’s genteel Tarrytown neighborhood a try.

Stone and her husband Dave McCary purchased the home off-market in 2021 with the intention to restore the property and then relocate the family to Austin, Realtor.com reports. The couple recently decided not to move and remain in New York where they regularly work, listing agent Eric Moreland of Moreland Properties told the Wall Street Journal.

The original asking price was $26.5 million but recently got cut  to $23.5 million. The final purchase has not been publicly disclosed.

If the $23.5 million ask held it will be among the priciest residential deals in the city limits sold recently, according to Realtor.com data. The next closest price in Austin currently on the market is $19.5 million.

The Tarrytown listing sits on 1.24 acres along a live oak-shaded street, and the redesign features work by architecture firm Cuppett Kilpatrick. In addition to the main five-bedroom house and two-bedroom guest house, there are several living spaces with various uses, such as an outdoor kitchen, office, dining room, solarium, large kitchen, breakfast bar and more, according to Moreland’s listing.

Leaded glass windows, marble fireplace, brick and herringbone oak floors and arched doorways are just some of the home’s features. There is also a paneled library, playroom and a screening room with a bar.

Renovations were still under construction when the home was originally listed, but work was reportedly due to be finished by the end of summer. County records log over $11 million in improvements in the years since the couple purchased the home, including $3.5 million this year alone. The home’s taxable value was most recently appraised at $7.3 million.

The New York City apartment that serves as Stone and McCary’s primary residence is understood to be worth about $12 million, according to Realtor.com.

Stone has a track record of profitable real estate flips. In 2022, she sold her Malibu blufftop home for $4.425 million after buying it for $3.25 million in 2018. In 2023, she sold another Los Angeles property for $4.3 million — nearly double what she paid in 2019.
