Just as momentum seemed to be building behind the South Fork Wind Farm project, the company behind it is now projecting “significant” delays associated with permitting, according to Newsday.

Orsted U.S. Offshore Wind said it expects the $2 billion offshore wind farm won’t be operational until the end of 2023 rather than 2022. The company expects delays with federal permitting to continue into next year and said that federal regulators still have to confirm Orsted’s plan to further space out wind turbines to accommodate fishing and shipping interests.

The project is a major source of disagreement among East Enders. East Hampton Town trustees recently approved a proposal from Orsted for a key component of the project, although opponents plan to challenge that decision. [Newsday] — Dennis Lynch
