Neighbors call golf club’s proposed staff housing a “transient motel”

Some Hamptons residents are irate about Atlantic Golf Club’s plan to build a 16-bedroom staff house near Shorts Pond, according to the Southampton Press.

The 6,500-square-foot building would go on a field on Scuttle Hole Road in Bridgehampton. Neighbors criticized the project at a Southampton Town Planning Board meeting last month.

Resident Catherine Prewitt called the building a “behemoth” and predicted it would become a party house for employees that could host 48 people on a given night.

Tony Panza of Rogers McCragg Architects, who is designing the project, said that many houses nearby are much larger than the proposed staff building and that the golf club has never received complaints about staff from neighbors or police.

Some speakers referred to the proposed building as a transient motel, which Panza and a club representative refuted repeatedly.
