Ryan Serhant teases Chicago expansion

After a slew of east coast expansion announcements, Ryan Serhant is slyly suggesting that Chicago might be next.

The New York real estate broker and his eponymous firm appear to be flirting with the idea of a Chicago expansion — at least on the broker’s instagram.

“Should Serhant come to Chicago?” the caption on a post from earlier this week said. The video is of Serhant, appearing to be in Chicago, running into a fan and asking if the broker should open offices in the Windy City.

The move comes as Serhant moves forward with expansions across the East Coast, and faces litigation over poaching of agents.

In March, the brokerage expanded into six new markets along the East Coast: Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Serhant has added 49 agents, three Florida offices — two in Miami and one in Palm Beach County — and one office in each of the other markets. When announcing those expansions, Serhant made it clear that there would be more.

Serhant hasn’t appeared to make any formal moves in Chicago and did not respond to a request for comment. A search of all LLCs and corporations in Illinois didn’t bring up any businesses with his name, and he doesn’t appear to have an active real estate license in the state.

Serhant, who became a household name on Bravo’s TV show “Million Dollar Listing: New York” and his own spinoff, “Sell it Like Serhant,” launched his brokerage in New York in 2020.

His firm finished sixth in TRD’s 2022 ranking of New York City brokerages, nearly doubling its on-market, sell-side revenue to $542 million from 2021, when it finished 11th with $235 million in volume. Serhant was fourth in The Real Deal’s 2021 rankings of top brokers and teams in New York. He closed 90 deals and had a total sales volume of $338 million. He was also the number one broker in New York for resales, with $305.6 million in total sales volume.
