NFL star running back Christian McCaffrey is holding onto his Super Bowl dreams with the 49ers, but he is parting ways with the last of his North Carolina real estate holdings.

McCaffrey, who played for the Carolina Panthers before his trade to San Francisco in 2022, has listed his French château-inspired estate on Lake Norman for $12.5 million, the Wall Street Journal reported. The price for the roughly $11,000-square-foot house is $1,125 per square foot.

Victoria Speer of The Agency Charlotte has the listing.

Situated on about 9 acres, the gated property boasts about 500 feet of lake frontage and includes two gyms.

The decision to sell wasn’t easy for McCaffrey, who said loves the house, but he had to let it go in light of his move to the Bay Area.

McCaffrey, engaged to former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo, had already vacated the Lake Norman home, and he’s looking to profit on the sale.

The 27-year-old football player, drafted by the Panthers in 2017, bought the estate in 2020 for $7.5 million, setting a sales record for the Charlotte metro area at that time.

The property is composed of a 12,000-square-foot main home with six bedrooms, along with a one-bedroom guest house connected by a porte-cochere.

Originally intended as an offseason retreat, it became McCaffrey’s full-time residence due to his fondness for the surroundings, particularly the backyard overlooking the lake.

Additional features of the estate include a wood-paneled study, stone wine cellar, sauna, elevator, and a barroom opening to the pool area. The primary suite features a two-story closet and a screened-in terrace.

The foyer has a 60-foot turreted ceiling. The great room has a double-sided fireplace, and the kitchen is equipped with a custom-made range from La Cornue. The property also includes a hidden panic room with a vault door.

McCaffrey converted a three-car garage under the guesthouse into a second, larger gym for his training needs during the season.

The estate has a movie theater, saltwater pool, spa, fire pit, grill area, and a second-floor outdoor kitchen. The grounds lead to a dock on the lake housing McCaffrey’s boat, which will be included in the sale along with a Wildcat four-wheeler, a jet ski and a golf cart

Reflecting on his time at the property, McCaffrey shared memories of movie nights, family gatherings and water activities.

With McCaffrey’s recent success on the field, scoring two touchdowns against the Green Bay Packers, he now has the opportunity to compete in the NFC Championship Game against the Detroit Lions, with the potential for his first Super Bowl title if San Francisco emerges victorious.

The listing follows the $3 million sale of his Charlotte condo last year.
