Charlotte’s luxury housing market has reached an apex.
After sitting on the market for nearly two years, minor league hockey’s Charlotte Checkers owner Michael Kahn and his wife, Wendy, have sold their 12,700-square-foot mansion in South Charlotte for $8.4 million, the Charlotte Business Journal reported.
That price, roughly $660 per square foot, marks the priciest home sale on record in the Charlotte metro area. The previous record was set in December, when an 11,500-square-foot home on Lake Norman traded for $7.67 million, or $661 per square foot.
The Kahns’ mansion, on Providence Road in the gated Greenwood community, hit the market at nearly $7.9 million in August 2022. Liza Caminiti of Ivestor Jackson Distinctive Properties was the listing agent.
Lena Horrigan and Nilou Henderson of Henderson Ventures represented the buyers, who purchased the home through an LLC.
The Kahns bought the property for $1.95 million in 2013 and performed several renovations that year.
Built in 1996, the mansion has five bedrooms and ten-and-a-half bathrooms. The property spans more than 5 acres and boasts numerous luxury features, particularly in the owner’s suite, which includes separate bathrooms, a steam shower and sauna, a recording studio, gym and a private outdoor shower, bathtub and waterfall.
In addition, the house includes a saltwater wall aquarium, a home theater and a pirate-themed game room. Outside, there’s a saltwater pool and spa, sports court, putting green and a six-car garage.
There are numerous Charlotte homes with eight-figure price tags that could raise the bar even higher, including a $22 million Mooresville estate on Lake Norman that was listed early this year. Among other potential record setters, star NFL running back Christian McCaffrey is seeking $12.5 million for his Lake Norman mansion.
