City Council member Vacca wants city to crack down on landlords

City Council member James Vacca, a Democrat from the Bronx, is pushing for legislation that will bar landlords who fail to pay their bills or correct unsafe conditions from obtaining building permits. Vacca said landlords should be in good standing with the city before they are allowed to expand their real estate holdings. Hundreds of thousands of landlords currently owe the city more than $2 billion in unpaid taxes, parking tickets and overdue fines for violations.
