It’s been a year since the owners of 5Pointz whitewashed over the beloved graffiti that coated the warehouse. To mark that occasion, the independent filmmaker P.J. Monsanto released an 18-minute documentary about the controversial incident.
Titled “We Don’t Need More Rats Here,” the film chronicles the artists’ efforts to save the building after the owner, Jerry Wolkoff, announced plans for a new residential development on the site, according to Brownstoner.
The film also captures their reaction after all their artwork was painted over in the dead of night.
The warehouse is currently under demolition and the developer plan to invite some of the artists back to paint on designated graffiti walls at the new rental building. [Brownstoner] – Christopher Cameron
