After months of negotiations, the National Hockey League scored a lease at 1 Manhattan West.

In a 20-year deal, the NHL locked down 160,000 square feet of office space and 15,000 square feet of retail space, the New York Post reported. Brookfield Property Partners [TRDataCustom] will also install a seasonal skating rink with NHL branding, sources told the newspaper. The office space will spread across five floors, and asking rents for the lease were not made public.

The NHL is now based at SL Green Realty’s 1185 Sixth Avenue, where it has 140,00 square feet of office space and a retail store at the base of the building. The move to 1 Manhattan West — which happen in 2020, or whenever the building is completed — will mean the league will double the size of the store.

A CBRE team led by Michael Laginestra and Michael Geoghegan represented the tenant. Brookfield’s Jerry Larkin and Duncan McCuaig represented the landlord in-house.

The NHL is the second major tenant to sign up for space at the $2.1 billion tower.  Last year, law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom signed a 20-year lease for 550,000 square feet at the building, which means the firm will leave its digs at the Durst Organization’s 4 Times Square. [NYP]Miriam Hall
