Shake Shack will set up shop at BFC Partners’ [TRDataCustom] Empire Outlets.
The fast food restaurant, headed by Danny Meyer, will open in 2018, Eater reported. It will span 3,900 square feet, and join 30 food retail tenants already locked down for the 40,000-square-foot restaurant space. Douglas Elliman is marketing the space.
The $354.4 million development will bring stores, restaurants and a hotel to the site next to the St. George Ferry terminal on Staten Island. BFC has received a total of $67 million in state subsidies. Critics have expressed concern about the subsidies, amid the bribery and bid-rigging scandal that has affected aides close to Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Sports retailer Nike signed up for 17,000 square feet at Empire Outlets last year. Other tenants include H&M, Nordstrom Rack and a Banana Republic Factor store.
The Empire Outlets location will be first Shake Shack on Staten Island. The company also has plans to open up at the Staten Island Mall in 2019. [Eater] — Miriam Hall
