Price for empty Georgica Pond-front plot once owned by David Geffen slashed to $19.9M
A 1.64-acre property on the shores of Georgica Pond had its price cut for the first time since it hit the market, dropping by $3.6 million from its original ask of $23.5 million, Curbed reported. The property had been part of a 5.5-acre compound that media mogul David Geffen bought from Courtney Sale Ross for $52 million in 2014. Developers bought the compound from Geffen two years later, subdivided it and put the pieces back on the market. Two were sold for a combined $24 million, 27east reported in May. Bespoke Real Estate agents Zach and Cody Vichinsky are handling this listing. [Curbed]

John Tortorella buys former Friendly’s site in Hampton Bays and plans new restaurant
John Tortorella, the owner of his eponymous Southampton-based pool company and the Centro Trattoria & Bar, bought the onetime site of Friendly’s in Hampton Bays for $1.3 million. Salvatore Biundo, who leases Centro, will open a new eatery in the space by the fall. Tortorella had been in negotiations with the building’s previous owners, Barry Moore and Joseph Malvasio, for more than two months. Though he plans to remodel the interior of the 5,200-square-foot space, he’ll leave much of the structure untouched, 27East reported. Friendly’s shuttered in July 2017 when Malvasio raised the rent on its franchise owner. [27east]

East Hampton homeowners plead with zoning board to protect them against rising seas
Owners of properties on Gardiner’s Bay in East Hampton appeared before the town’s Zoning Board of Appeals to demand that it allow a sandbag barrier to remain for up to five years in order to protect them from rising tides and erosion, The East Hampton Star reported. The area is currently a coastal erosion hazard zone, which bars erosion structures. Homeowners argued that the zoning was put in place before the increasing threat was even known. In 2017, the Building Department issued an emergency permit for the sandbag wall, but it could only stay up for a maximum of nine months. Experts said revitalizing the beach would be a better long-term solution and homeowners want protection until such a project could be completed. [East Hampton Star]

East Hampton home of actress Dina Merrill, whose mother built Mar-a-Lago, sells to family
The former home of Nedenia Hartley, who went under the stage name Dina Merrill, was bought by the daughter from her first marriage, Nedenia Rumbough, and Donald Handelman. The two paid $8.2 million for the East Hampton home of Merrill, who died in May 2017. It took more than a year to work out the sale. Merrill, the daughter of Marjorie Merriweather Post and Edward Francis Hutton, grew up in homes in New York and Florida. Merrill’s mother built Mar-a-Lago, which Donald Trump then bought in 1985. [27East]
